The Lab - think, make communicate

The innovation BioMED-Lab is an interdisciplinary, project-centered educational laboratory for 3rd year students of the biomedical science program and selected students form other faculties (BS program "computer sciences for medical engineering", and other engineering programs).

Aims are

  1. Awareness for digital methods in life science applications
  2. Awareness and first experience in cross-disciplinary R&D projects
  3. Experience in idea finding, innovation and project management

Students work in teams on scientific projects according to the principles of the project- and research-based learning. The teams follow the procedure of a typical scientific project: think, make, communicate!

They come up with a project plan, do the practical work in our labs as independently as possible, and finally present their project in a poster and paper-like report. Experienced scientists and engineers assist as coaches.

Students from the METI program (computer sciences for medical engineering) can participate in that program (elective course) to work in interdisciplinary teams on project of lab automatisation, image processing and similar topics (see example here).

This laboratory is supported by the Stifterverband der Deutschen Wirtschaft e.V. (Baden-Württemberg Stiftung) and  HUMUS program (Hochschuldidaktisch und methodisch unterstützte Selbstinitiierung von Lernprozessen an HAW in Baden-Württemberg) and the "Fond der Chemischen Industrie" (FCI).

This webpage will be constantly updated to give you an insight into the latest practical work and projects of the lab.
